priorities

thoughts

Beth and I were discussing this afternoon the feeling of “not belonging” with the other Young Marrieds in the Young Married’s Ministry at the church we attend here in PA.  We love the friendships that we are making at YMM and connecting with Godly men and women of faith.  It is such a blessing to connect with those who follow God and love Jesus, and we have truly found that with the individuals we’re getting to know.  However, we both feel that we are in a different stage of life than most of those.  Sure, we’re married and expecting our own child (what a blessing!) but we’ve had such a life changing experience in TN that most haven’t.  They are very loving and supporting and encouraging that we will get through this difficulty of being homeless and jobless; we understand that too.  However, our frustration is not with the homelessness or joblessness per se, but the lack of direction of where to turn to FOLLOW GOD!  That is my one desire!  That is my passion.

God.

Spouse.

Kids.

Job.

Everything else.

Those are the priorities that I am striving day-by-day to accomplish.  I am striving to deepen my relationship with God, further my relationship with Beth, excited about my relationship for John or Hannah (and wanting to be a good Daddy!), perform well at my job (whatever God provides), and then do everything else in my life to glorify God and proclaim the great gift that He has given me–Salvation!

However, this blog points out that Christians “of the world” have our priorities mixed up.  In particular, Beth and I have come to realize that it isn’t about having a house to own or providing “the best” health insurance or saving for retirement or anything else that takes priority over God’s calling on our lives.  Those things are blessings, they are not, as Mark Brown points out, “rights.”  This has all gotten me thinking about my priorities and desires.  I know that God will bless me and my family in the way that He sees fit to further His Kingdom!!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!
