One of the greatest lies that the Enemy (Satan, the Devil) has told to world culture is the lie of the new year being a time for a “new start.”  The Bible is emphatically clear on this point: the only person who can give a new start is Jesus!

God tells us of this great transaction first through the prophet Ezekiel two times in the book.

In Ezekiel 11:19 the Lord says

And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,…

Then, again in Ezekiel 36:26

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Jesus tells us, through the Gospel writer John, in John 3:3 that

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

This comment is in response to a Pharisee, Nicodemus, who came to speak to Jesus, at night to ask about the signs and wonders that Jesus was doing.  Jesus tells him, through John 3:1-21, that it is He who came to fulfill the prophecy of the Old Testament, including Ezekiel.  Jesus says that we are not going to be born again, of flesh, because we already are of flesh, but that those who believe in His name (John 3:16-18) will be saved and will be born of the Spirit (John 3:5-6).

So, the myth that each New Year brings us a new worldly start is false.  The only new start we receive is from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!
